Man's drunk driving case complicated by vehicular homicide charge

Some criminal charges are more serious than others, and the details of a particular incident can be instrumental in determining what type of charge a person could face. In cases where a person is accused of drunk driving, the allegations may be more severe if the incident resulted in the death of another person. As a result, the accused party will need to keep that information in mind when building a criminal defense.

It was recently reported that a fatal accident in Tennessee led to DUI-related charges. Apparently, an off-duty police officer was driving home from work and had stopped at a traffic light when another vehicle crashed into his car from behind. Reports stated that the driver of the second vehicle was speeding at the time of the collision.

The off-duty officer suffered fatal injuries in the incident. It was noted that the other driver walked away from the scene at first, but authorities later took him into custody. At the time of the report, the man was facing a criminal charge for vehicular homicide while intoxicated and other undisclosed allegations.

Any type of drunk driving allegation should be treated carefully, and because this Tennessee man is also facing a vehicular homicide charge, his case is more complicated than others. He will undoubtedly want to do his best to understand his criminal defense options and find the path with which he feels most comfortable moving forward. This will certainly be a stressful time during his life, but with the right information, he may feel more confident in handling his case.
