A DUI case has recently arisen in Tennessee that involves a police officer.
Reportedly, over the weekend, the officer was driving through a work zone that was on a road in Tennessee. The officer was off-duty. Authorities allege that the officer was driving while intoxicated and also was speeding.
Police arrested the officer in relation to this alleged incident. According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press article that reported this story, the officer faces multiple criminal charges, including charges of DUI, speeding in a work zone and implied consent law violation.
The officer also reportedly has been put on paid administrative leave in relation to the incident.
It will be interesting to see what ultimately happens in this case.
As this case illustrates, a person can face criminal charges if he or she is accused of having driven while intoxicated. If a person is convicted of DUI charges, he or she can be given serious criminal punishments, such as a driver’s license suspension, a heavy fine or a jail sentence. Being accused of DUI can also lead to a person facing major consequences in regards to their reputation and professional life. Thus, the stakes can be very high in DUI cases.
DUI cases can have many complicated aspects and there are many different things it can be important to closely review in such cases, including: police reports, witness accounts, the documentation regarding any blood alcohol tests administered and how police obtained the evidence they have.
Thus, if a person accused of DUI, having strong representation can be very important.
