Death of Daughter Keeps Family Fighting for Tougher DUI LawsJenny Shell was 21 when she was killed in March of 2004 by a drunk driver. A 3 time convicted drunk driver struck the car she was in. Though its been 4 years, t-shirts, websites, and a petition with 4000 names still support Jenny Shell's family and they will continue their quest to find Jenny justice. The crash occurred on Highway 441 after dark in Monroe County. Benjamin Kelly was driving on the same road, just days after his 3rd DUI conviction. According to a grand jury, Kelly was intoxicated on the night he hit Shell. Only days before the crash happened, Kelly was sentenced to 120 days in jail for DUI, but he was given a month before he was required to serve the time. Shell's cousin, Mandy Martin said, "He shouldn't have been given the chance to get his affairs in line, she wasn't given the chance." Kelly currently has a shot at parole. He has served 4 years of a 20 year sentence after pleading guilty for vehicular homicide. |
