MTSU Police: Student Shot Off CampusMiddle Tennessee State University police say that a 23 year old student, Shashanka Pulluru, was shot in the back in a parking lot when walking from his car to his apartment in College Point on Friday night. The student was approached by a group of unknown men and was shot for no known reason. Pulluru is majoring in business at the university and is a master's candidate. Police say there is no known motive for the shooting, which left Pulluru with a wound in his abdomen. Pulluru lives in the apartment complex with a couple of roommates but it was his neighbor that called the police and the medics. Pulluru's neighbor, Stephanie Smotherman, said she heard a gunshot, opened the door two seconds later and said there was no one else outside with Pulluru. She immediately went back inside and called 911. The police are still investigating the shooting and looking for any possible leads in the crime. Pulluru is being treated for his wounds at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being transferred there from the Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
