Skinhead Wants Obama Murder Plot Charges Thrown Out

Daniel Cowart was arrested on October 24, only weeks before the 2008 presidential election, for plotting a mass shooting spree that would have ended with the assassination attempt of president-elect Barack Obama. Cowart is now requesting that the charges be dropped because the jury that handed down the indictment on him and his friend did not have enough white jurors on it. He and his lawyer feel that the selection process was not partial because there were 21 African Americans or people of other races on the jury out of the 23 total members. Cowart's lawyer is also arguing that the trial should be happening in a county where 64 percent of the vote went to Barack Obama.

Both Cowart and Schlesselman are being charged with federal firearm violations and making threats against a presidential candidate. The officials involved in the case claim that the two men did not pose any threat to Obama but the arrest heightened fears about Obama's safety and security during the final weeks of the race.
