Grandson of Official Has DUI DroppedThe grandson of a Camden official had his charge of driving under the influence dropped after being arrested on November 1. The person of interest, Thomas Noah Todd, is the grandson of former Camden mayor Mary Phyll Waggoner. Waggoner is now an alderman. Waggoner claimed that altering the ticket of a person is not right and that she would never think about influencing an officer to change the ticket. Todd refused to take a blood alcohol test, which, if Todd had been prosecuted for refusing, he would have lost his license for at least one year. The arresting officer claims that Todd's grandmother, Waggoner, did not have any influence over him when deciding to drop the DUI charge and only charge Todd with reckless driving. The arresting claims he only had enough evidence for reckless driving and nothing else. Driving under the influence or reckless driving are dangerous crimes that come with stiff sentences. Anyone prosecuted for driving under the influence can cost a driver their license for one year or more while reckless driving involves paying a fine from the ticket and points being placed on the driver's license record. Since the original charge of DUI was dropped, Todd will only face the penalties for reckless driving.
