MTSU Shooting Case Will Go to Grand JuryEarlier in the month of November, a female student at Middle Tennessee State University was approached in a campus parking lot by a stranger who demanded money, her cell phone and her laptop. The female student is 22 year old Elizabeth Pittenger. Pittenger testified in a hearing last week that the thief pointed a gun at her and opened fire. She held her purse up in front of her to block the gunshot and claims that the contents of the purse had stopped the bullet fired at her. The thief in question is 20 year old Orlando Edmiston of Murfreesboro. Edmiston's case will be headed to the grand jury. Edmiston is facing charges of attempted robbery, attempted first degree murder, theft, and possession of a weapon on school property. Pittenger has stated in previous media reports that holding her purse up against her body helped stop the bullet because the purse was oversized and she had a lot of materials inside that aided as well. Edmiston will be facing anywhere from five to 15 years in prison, maybe even more than that. The case is moving to the grand jury.
