City Councilwoman Arrested

On October 28, city councilwoman Janis Fullilove had a warrant issued for her arrest in Shelby County. She was arrested on October 30 by Shelby County deputies after turning herself into authorities at Jail East. She was released on $200 bond. Fullilove had a warrant issued for her arrest because she was stopped for driving under the influence in Mississippi and had her license suspended in March of 2008. Fullilove lied about the license suspension in Mississippi on her Tennessee Driver's License Application. Fullilove faces two charges, one for fraudulent use of a driver's license and one for making or selling a counterfeit driver's license. Fullilove recently checked into rehab for substance abuse problems and has two DUI arrests and one conviction.

The charges that Fullilove will be facing are class A misdemeanors. An arraignment date has not been set yet. Under Tennessee law, a driver's license must be lost, destroyed or stolen before a duplicate copy is made. While applying for a new license in Tennessee, she told the driver license examiner that her license had been misplaced, not that a deputy in Mississippi had seized the license due to DUI.
